The country is in the grip of a major health crisis with pharmaceutical companies and hospitals accused of corruption and generating low staff morale as doctors continue to flee the Czech Republic for greener pastures.
In recent days, the head of the Czech Medical Chamber took the unusual step of urging his membership to stop working should significant changes not occur before the end of the year, raising fears about the state of medical care to a fever pitch.
"An educated person would not risk being treated in a Czech hospital," Milan Kubek, president of the Czech Medical Chamber (ČLK), told The Prague Post, adding that many hospitals need to close because of a lack of staff. (Reuters, Prague post, CTK) |
