Slavery case in Czech Republic

Czech court find guilty three Ukrainians over slavery. Vasil Bentsa, Volodimir Dublenyč and Mikhail Zavatskij were accused of trafficking and exploitation of slave labor, the Czech daily Mlada Fronta Dnes reported.
The three men employed foreigners -Romanian and Bulgarian labourers - in the Litomerice district in 2008 and 2009. They took away their identity documents, beat them, threatened them and did not pay them the promised salaries. "All were found guilty of the crime of human trafficking" te verdict said. The court imposed sentences of five to seven years in prison. The foreigners worked up to 17 hours a day in local factories and at farms. Labourers who managed to escape, then reported to the police. The verdict has not yet taken effect. |
